Activities 2008-2009
- Maryam AJMAL Women’s College of Science & Technology has been established for the girl- students intending to pursue higher education in science. At present it is a Junior College but it is poised for upgradation to a Degree level college. The residential college is shifting to its permanent building in the new campus at Borpukhri on Hojai-Jugijan road before the beginning of the next academic session , i,e, 2010-2011. Modern infrastructure and quality education in a peaceful ambience are the hallmarks of this ambitious women’s college.
- AJMAL National Talent Search Examination (ANTSE): Ajmal National Talent Search Examination is a national level talent testing examination for Class III to XII which is conducted every year to inculcate a competitive mindset among the students and to nurture their talents providing scholarship and cash awards. Beginning from the year 2010 one more class for the graduates and students studying in the graduate programme is going to be added in the Talent search examination. The aim is to motivate students for the competitive examinations.
- Literacy Mission: Cent Percent Literacy Programme (CPLP) is a literacy campaign for the age group 6 – 14 years belonging to the deprived, drop-out and underprivileged section of the society. AJMAL Foundation has been maintaining a literacy campaign through a number of permanent study centres in Hojai town and its adjoining suburbs to encourage the poor , deprived, marginalized and working children to take an interests in the learning and literacy process.
- Free Coaching for IAS Examination: AJMAL Foundation conducts a screening test for the educated youth of North-east every year in November at Guwahati to select and sponsor candidates to undergo coaching at the professional Hamdard Study Circle, New Delhi for the All India Civil Services Examination. AJMAL Foundation’s collaborative arrangement with the Hamdard Study Circle is part of the effort of the Foundation to encourage the educated youths of the North-East to make a mark at the competitive examination. Hundreds of youths take the examination every year.
- Free computer centres to promote computer literacy: Computers have become an essential ingredient of a student’s learning kit. The vast world of knowledge is made available to a student if he has a computer with internet connectivity. Realizing the pivotal role that computer literacy and computer education has come to play in our modern curriculum, the AJMAL foundation has been trying to popularize computer education in the schools and colleges through the “AJMAL Computer Centre”. As part of its drive to give a fillip to popularizing computer education, A ‘Free Computer Education Program’ is currently underway in Dhubri, Doboka & Nilbagan where the educated youths are studying various computer courses.
- AJMAL Scholarship Programme: AJMAL FOUNDATION also provides monthly scholarships to the economically backward students who are continuing studies in Medical and Para Medical, Technical, Engineering and Management institutions as well as in the general streams for BA and MA Courses. Even the students studying LAW, MCA and research scholars are among our AJMAL Scholarship holders.
- AJMAL Endowment Prize: The AJMAL Foundation provides AJMAL Endowment Prizes for the students securing 1st Class 1st in B. Tech Examination in the Dept. of Information and Technology and B.ALLB (Hons) in the Dept. of Law in Assam University.
- Book grant & educational assistance for students: Apart from this venture for HSLC students, AJMAL FOUNDATION stands by the poor and the needy students to provide them assistance in cash and facilitate their admission in schools and colleges and to help them purchase Text Books. Many brilliant and promising students, who would have quit studies for lack of money and resources, are now pursuing studies in schools and colleges.
- Professional Job Oriented Program for educated unemployed youths: The Sales Orientation Program (SOP) is another major program undertaken by AJMAL FOUNDATION. Under this program educated unemployed youths of Assam and the North East are groomed so as to acquire essential skills in effective communication in English, Arabic, Personality Development and Salesmanship. The purpose is to make them eligible to get jobs in companies, private firms as well as in the government departments.
- Building Grants to un-aided educational institutions: A large number of schools and colleges established at the initiatives of local people in several rural and semi-urban areas have been facing an uncertain future. These venture schools and colleges have not received any grants from the government ever since their establishments many years ago. In the face of imminent closure these institutions have owed their survival to the generous grants from the AJMAL Foundation. Under the Grant-in-Aid Scheme of the AJMAL Foundation, many public initiated schools, colleges and other educational institutions have managed to survive and flourish. In the year 2008-09, AJMAL Foundation provided Building Grants to the un-aided Colleges viz. Haji Ajmal Ali College, Nilbagan, Murajhar College, Nilambazar College, Karimganj, All Assam Tanzim Madaris Qawmiya, Nilbagan,Nagaon, Moulana Bashani College, Dhubri.
- Conducting training programs for in-service school teachers: Teachers play the most vital role in teaching –learning process. The constant updating of the knowledge base of the teachers is essential to make the whole exercise effective. So, Teachers Training Programs are in the agenda of the Foundation as a priority. Experienced faculty of the reputed colleges and Training Institutes of the state are invited to help the teachers of High Schools and ME schools to learn new and effective methods of teaching through workshops and training sessions.
- Honorarium to teachers of un-aided educational institutions: The teachers and other employees working in the venture (non-Govt., Non-Private) schools without any salary or financial benefit have to endure a lot of hardship. Even some teachers have retired without receiving any salary either from the govt. or any other sourses. AJMAL Foundation has selected some teachers from such schools and colleges and has been providing regular lump sum monthly aid to them.
- Free general/remedial coaching to H.S.L.C. students: AJMAL Foundation has started free coaching centres for HSLC examiners in various schools of Hojai Sub-Division, especially in schools located in far flung rural areas where professional coaching facilities are lacking. Experienced teachers of the locality and from neighbouring towns or schools are engaged to guide and provide tips to the examinees in short sessions . The Foundation has a plan to extend the programme to other parts of the state in future.
- Career counseling camp: AJMAL FOUNDATION holds periodical ‘Career Counseling Camp’ to disseminate information as well as to help the rural youths in opting for a wide variety of career options.
- Felicitation to HSLC & HSSLC Toppers: Every year AJMAL Foundation organizes felicitation programme to the HSLC & HSSLC toppers to encourage them for their higher studies and to become a good and ideal citizen of the country.
- Model Village Program: The AJMAL Foundation has taken up a few selected villages to transform it as Model Villages providing necessary infrastructure, Services and utilities, Health-Care and education facilities for quality life. The experiment has received encouraging response from the villagers.
- Women Empowerment Program: Empowering women to be equal partner in the development process is encouraged by the AJMAL FOUNDATION. It encourages women to pursue higher education in science and technology and at the same time it cares for the poor and the illiterate women by providing them vocational training in weaving and bamboo crafts. It not only provides tools and materials but also makes available necessary training by experienced and competent resource persons. Making women self reliant and economically productive is a positive contribution of AJMAL FOUNDATION towards social development. AJMAL Foundation has undertaken :

- Free distribution of materials to the physically challenged:
Sympathy and succor to those who are physically challenged and those who are victims of unfortunate circumstances deserve charity and the AJMAL FOUNDATION has a soft corner for them. AJMAL FOUNDATION has taken note of those helpless and abandoned people who are physically challenged. Periodically surveys are made as to the number of physically challenged persons in a particular area and according to the need , help in cash and kind, especially equipments to blind, deaf and lame people are provided free of cost.
- Marriage & Medical aid to poor: Every year medical aid is provided to the needy patients who belong to Below Poverty Line (BPL). In this way marriage aid is also provided to the bride/bridegrooms belonging to the very poor sections of the society.
- Construction of Low-Cost House for BPL families: Improvement in education is definitely the imperative, but equally important is the improvement in the quality of life of the poorer section of society. The AJMAL FOUNDATION’s programs in this sector include building low-cost houses for the poor and the homeless.
- Installation of Tube-Wells/Ring-Wells in remote arid habitations: Many villages and remote areas of Assam are not having minimum facilities of pure drinking water. AJMAL Foundation providing drinking water facilities by digging Tube-well and Ring-well in areas where dryness and scarcity of water prevails.
- Relief & Rehabilitation: Over and above all these, AJMAL FOUNDATION is better identified as the most trusted and sincere friend of those battered by the onslaught of natural fury like flood, cyclone, and man made disasters like communal, ethnic violence, devastating flood. AJMAL FOUNDATION instantly raised a workforce out of its employees and rushed out with relief materials to provide succor to the marooned people. It rescued marooned people, provided relief and took rehabilitation measures to address the urgent need of the affected people in a war footing. AJMAL FOUNDATION also contributes to the Relief Fund of the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister and other organizations.
- Free distribution of Blankets/Warm clothes/Mosquito net to the poor: In severe winter, AJMAL FOUNDATION distributes blankets at free of cost to the poorer section under its ‘Cold wave Program.
- Free Boat service: In some far areas of the state, where rivers are the only means of communication, AJMAL Foundation has provided ‘Free Boat Service’ at Changmaji Balighat, Modertoli, Nagaon, Assam to travel one village to another and move the other side of the river.
- Temple Construction: The AJMAL Foundation has donated generously for the Construction of Temples in various places to enhance the unity among the different communities.
- Hand-Cart, Rickshaw & Bicycle to Poor People: AJMAL Foundation donates a good number of hand carts, rickshaw, & bi-cycles amongst the marginalized section of the society to uplift their economic condition
- Public Welfare Camp: The AJMAL Foundation organizes seminars, symposium & intellectuals Meet on various public welfare related matters viz. Health-Care, Sanitation and Legal etc. for awakening the mass people living in the rural areas.
- Free Sewing Machine Distribution: This year AJMAL Foundation distributes a large number of sewing machines among helpless widows, poor women and unemployed educated girls for their livelihood.
